Jezz Chung
Jezz was born in Atlanta, Georgia, where their preteen years were largely shaped by the era of crunk music and Xanga blogging (username: sexiiaznmamii). Jezz got their high school and college education in Texas, where they found their first creative community while dancing on outdoor stages, at high school auditoriums, and in hip hop competitions.
At UT Austin, they studied psychology and communication which makes a logical combo for someone on their way to becoming a professional performer. They detoured their dreams for a few years working at an advertising agency, then sent in an existential crisis resignation in 2020 to focus on writing, public speaking, acting, and healing (honestly, a full-time job).
Jezz has six Capricorn placements and big Leo energy which can be summarized by this “life philosophy” statement they wrote at the tender age of 12:
“to strive to fulfill the potential of complete and utter happiness
we all bear inside ourselves, transforming each challenge
life throws at you into a lesson of wisdom and strength.
to attain all your goals while maintaining your personal morals,
despite how corrupt the rest of the world may become.
to stay true to oneself, even after enduring the best and the worst of life.”
Everything they do, they do with the hopes that it helps people feel less alone and more alive. They wrote a book of poems and practices titled “THIS WAY TO CHANGE: A gentle guide to personal transformation and collective liberation” that comes out Spring 2024.
Jezz values community care, making a more accessible world for neurodivergent people, and soft fuzzy things. If you come watch them in the show, you’ll probably get a combination of heartwrenching vulnerability, delightful silliness, and sensory joy.
Ongoing special interests include visualization, manifesting techniques, quantum physics, neuroscience, queer futurity, disability justice, abolition, lifestyle design, musical theater, shiny things, and sloths.
If their memoir was a soundtrack, it would sound like this.
